Malton Community Building Project is a five year community development project funded by Ontario Trillium Foundation. The project aims to mobilize youth to engage in civic engagement and also develop an expressive arts studio so that the Malton Youth are engaged in creative work. The project also looks at engaging the parents and educate them about the school system. The parents would also participate in parenting sessions.

The project also aims to build a coalition between the South Asian and the Black community. If you would like to participate in this project, please contact Prabhjot, the Project Coordinator at 905.677.0889.

The following activities are underway:

- set up an advisory committee

- set up a youth group at Lincoln Alexander Secondary School

- organize parenting sessions

- train parents to become peer leaders

Research has indicated that Youth are experiencing problems in the areas of education, relationships and career development. Some South Asian and Black Youth are involved in drug use, gang activities & violence. PCHS has developed a collaborative approach in addressing these concerns. Two Youth Outreach Workers, one for the South Asian and the other for the Black community are available to help youth from both communities.

Youth 12 to 24 years of age

One to one Counseling

Group Counseling

 

How are referrals made?

 

Referrals are made by calling 905.677.0889. Community Based Agencies, Probation Officers, Lawyers, Religious leaders, Parents, Family Members, Family Physicians and individuals may make a referral.

The program is located at 2829 Derry Road East, Mississauga, Ontario, L4T 1A5

 

What are the hours of operation?

 

Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with extended hours based on clients’ availability.
